Wall Units
Built-In Wall Units & Fireplace Surrounds in Toronto

A wall unit is made for the wall it sits against. Cabinets, floating shelves and a mantel are worked into a single run, sized to the television and the hearth that are already in the room.
Closed storage below, open or glazed above, and lighting where it is wanted. Cut and fitted on site, then finished in place.

What changes the price
A wall unit is priced by what goes into the run, and the run is sized to the wall it sits on.
- Length and height of the run. A unit either side of a fireplace and one that covers the wall to the ceiling are different amounts of casework.
- Doors, drawers or open shelves. Every door and drawer is a box, a face and its hardware. Open shelving is less work per foot of wall.
- Glass and lighting. Glazed doors and integrated lighting add parts, and the lighting has to be coordinated with the electrician before the unit closes.
- The fireplace and the television. Building around a hearth, a mantel or a television opening means sizing the run to what is already in the room.
- Painted or stained. Painted casework hides its joints under filler. Stained casework shows the grain and every joint, so the material and the cutting are more exacting.
- Who supplies the material. In most cases the homeowner or the general contractor supplies it. We can supply it as well.

Common questions
Can a wall unit be built around an existing fireplace?
Yes. The run is sized to the hearth and the opening that are already there, so the cabinetry meets the fireplace instead of fighting it.
Can the television be built in?
Yes. The opening is sized to the television in the room, with the cabinetry and shelving set out around it.
Painted or in wood?
Either. Painted casework reads as part of the wall. Wood reads warmer and shows the grain. We build and fit the unit and leave it filled and sanded, and the painting is done by your painter.
Is a wall unit furniture or is it part of the wall?
It is built as one piece with the wall rather than set against it, scribed to the surfaces it meets so there is no gap along the top or the sides.
What is a media wall?
A wall unit built around the television, so the screen sits inside the cabinetry and shelving instead of on a bare wall.
Can a wall unit include a wet bar?
Yes. Wet bars, wine racks and glazed display cabinets are built the same way, as part of the run.
